Research from the Ohio State University in 1998 revealed that, as humans, our brains have a ‘negative bias’ and that ‘our attitudes and behaviours are influenced more strongly by negative rather than positive inputs’.
This means that a failed attempt at something will evoke emotion, allowing our brains to be ale to analyse the event – this means that we can often learn quicker from negative experiences.
However, we can also look at what has worked well, using this information to improve systems, processes, and procedures – there is plenty to learn from our successes.
Being able to learn from experience as a whole, being able to consider what worked well, what has been unsuccessful, and what can be improved is a valuable skill, particularly while implementing health & safety management systems.
This is part of what we do at Ensure Safety & Training. Every company will have methods of implementation that work best and other methods that may not be as effective. We discuss the most effective, efficient, and suitable ways of getting you and your business where you need to be with regard to Health & Safety.
