Fire doors are an essential passive fire protection measure used to protect:
- People who are escaping
- People who are trapped
- The fire brigade when dealing with a fire
- The building from the spread of fire
The Regulatory Reform (fire safety) Order 2005 requires suitable fire doors to be in place, in order to help separate compartments and protect escape routes within a building.
The Fire Safety Act 2021 clarified that flat entrance doors must be considered in the Fire Risk Assessment mandated by the Fire Safety Order.
The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 require regular checks to ensure that self-closing devices are working and the fire doors, including flat entrance doors, are in efficient working order and in good repair. These checks are to ensure that the existing door standard is maintained.
When completing a Fire Door survey, we will check that - Suitable fire doors are in place
- Fire doors are self-closing, and close fully into the frame
- All parts of the fire door are the correct standard
- Fire doors are fitted into a wall with the same fire-resistant rating, as a minimum
- Regular inspections and maintenance are carried out
