Checking your fire doors is an integral part of Fire Safety on site to ensure escape routes are effective to keep your colleagues safe in an emergency situation.
Implement a daily pre-start check that will act as a reminder for you to carry out your fire door checks on a daily basis. The daily check can be to simply check the fire door opens freely and closes properly shut.
Getting into the habit of checking your fire doors regularly will ensure any faults can be rectified and any actions can therefore be acted on quickly.
Fire doors should have a full inspection by a competent person at least every 6 months but can be brought forward – this is down to risk assessment.
This will include checking:
- The door closes properly
- Checking
- – Seals
- – Gaps
- – Hinges
- – Certification
