Business owners have a moral, legal and financial duty to ensure that they have a fire risk assessment in place which is fit for purpose.
Fire is probably one of the most devastating events which can happen to a business; it can not only destroy large amounts, if not all, of the property but endanger the lives of employees.
The first thing to remember when meeting this duty is to ensure that the risk assessment is completed by a competent fire risk assessor who has the relevant experience, knowledge and training.
Most people will have some competence when it comes to fire however this is a very technical subject which involves looking at the materials of a building and how they might perform, compartmentation, early warning systems, escape routes, fire fighting equipment and consideration of fire hazards and how they are being controlled.
Fire Risk Assessments, to remain suitable and sufficient, must be reviewed regularly, and if there has been any significant changes to the layout, structure or activities within the building.
If you need any support or guidance with regards to your Fire Risk Assessment, please do get in touch- we’re always happy to chat.
