While PAT Testing is not a legal requirement, it is a good way of ensuring that electrical equipment is in good working order. Employers should take a risk-based approach when deciding whether PAT Testing is a reasonably practicable form of hazard identification.
If you choose not to carry out PAT Testing, another form of identification must be used to detect any faults, hazards, or wear and tear with electrical equipment, in order to prevent harm and prove that you have provided suitable maintenance and inspection.
It should be noted that PAT testing could be a requirement of your insurance.
