April is Stress Awareness Month. The Stress Management Society has been holding this awareness month every April since 1992. ‘This year our theme is community. We have chosen this theme because a lack of community can cause loneliness and isolation, which in turn lowers people’s wellbeing, impacts mental health, and can lead to mental illness.’
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on peoples’ mental health. With disrupted social lives, travel restrictions and working from home, some people may have felt isolated from the community around them. Studies suggest that people who are better connected with family, friends and communities are happier, healthier people, both physically and mentally.
